Hakodate (Motomachi Area)
Hakodate is a city that is situated the southern part of Hokkaido.
It is one of the first port that is open to the public after the long isolation policy.
(that lasted for more than 200 years.)
A lot of foreign people came to Hakodate after opening the port
and built buildings with their style.
I'd like to introduce some of them.

City of Hakodate
In Motomachi Area, there are a lot of unique buildings.
There are also some religious buildings of different religions without any conflicts.

Russian Orthodox Church

St. Jojn's Church (Anglican Church)

Motomachi Roman Catholic Church

Funatama Shinto Shrine
We can see the Old Public Hall of Hakodate Ward too.
If we pay 300yen, we can enter the building.

View from Motomachi Park

This is one of the popular photo spots. The street is wide and beautiful, and we can see the ocean, but please be careful when taking photos (because cars pass by here frequently)

This photo was not taken in Motomachi Area, but there are some houses like this (eclectic style) in Motomachi Area too. Do you notice something unusual or unique? Do you want to know more about these houses?
I usually use 45 ~60 minutes to walk around this area.
After that, we can go to Mt. Hakodate and Kanemori Red brick Warehouses (shopping district).

Kanemori Red brick Warehouses (originally they were warehouses to keep merchandise but now they are popular shopping area)
